The world as she knew it has gone forever. When Alice Davenport wakes up after an illness, her mother, and the town she knew are gone. A series of ever-growing storms is wreaking havoc everywhere. Taken underground to a bunker owned by Paradigm Industries as the storms grow more violent, Alice gets her last glimpse of life above ground. Almost 100 years later in the ruins of what was once London, a new society has emerged. The Model maintains the delicate balance between humanity and the environment, with the result that humans are often frozen in stasis until needed by Industry. When 15-year-old Cater is awakened, he knows it’s his time to step into the role his parents could not, and become Controller General. But much time has passed while Carter slept, and the world is no longer the place he once knew. And because the world has changed, he finds his priorities have changed as he begins to believe the only solutions to be found lie in the past.
This book took my breath away! Lowe takes elements from some of the best dystopian fiction and creates an entirely new, highly believable story that seems a little too real for comfort
