Fall From Grace by Tim Weaver. Published by St. Martins

Missing persons investigator David Raker returns in what may be his most explosive case thus far. Raker is approached by a detective, a woman worried about her missing father. Leonard Franks was a highly respected detective in the homicide unit in the Metropolitan Police Force when he retired. He and his wife moved away from London to a quiet country farmhouse. One day he went out to get firewood and never came back. The police have launched an all out search for their missing colleague, but have not turned up anything. Now Raker, a man with a gift for tracking down lost people steps in and what he finds, almost immediately will set off alarm bells and shock waves. Weaver is a master! I read the first Raker book last year and was blown away by it, his characters, settings and the dark brilliance of his plots is incredible. Weaver is one of those authors I recommend to everyone
