Blood on the Tracks by Barbara Nickless. Published by Thomas & Mercer

Railroad police special agent Sidney Rose Parnell  and her K-9, Clayde are assigned to a gruesome murder. The victim, a young woman, is believed to have been murdered by her fiancée, a physically and emotionally scarred Iraq war veteran. Parnell has her doubts about his guilt though; she herself is an Iraq war veteran. As she investigates the murder, she’s led into a shadowy underworld of a vicious gang that rides the rails. I liked this book for much more than the mystery. Nickless explores the world of returning veterans and the PTSD they suffer from. Parnell is a kick ass heroine that is incredibly realistic – I hope that Nickless plans more adventures for her
