Traveling Light by Lynne Branard. Published by Berkley

Alissa Wells is on a journey with the cremated remains of a man whose ashes she found in a storage locker. She also has her three-legged dog along for the ride. Let’s back up a little. Alissa, at odds with her life, impulsively buys the contents of an abandoned storage unit and finds herself the owner of Roger Hart’s ashes. With her own life in the crapper, Alissa decides to take Roger on a ride from North Carolina to New Mexico. Why? Well it’s a fresh start. Along the way, she picks up teenage hitchhiker, Blossom, a kids wise beyond her years. As they travel, Roger and his trip across the country are photographed at tourist spots and posted to Facebook. If this sounds odd, that’s because it is. Wonderfully, gloriously odd. Two lost souls and the remains of one man discover that sometimes it’s all about the journey. Poignant and funny at the same time
