A Twist of the Knife by Becky Masterman. Published by Berkley

Brigid Quinn doesn’t miss her work at the FBI and is living a quiet and uneventful life in Tucson when she gets a call from her old partner, Laura Coleman. Laura is on leave from the Bureau and volunteering on an innocence project involving a man convicted of killing his family. Laura believes the man is innocent and wants Brigid’s help. Given their friendship and what they have endured together, Brigid is by her friend’s side immediately, but she’s not so sure Laura’s client is innocent. Either way, time is running out as his execution grows ever closer. Tightly plotted with excellent character development
