Beauty and Attention by Liz Rosenberg. Published by Lake Union

Abby Archer wants more for herself than marriage and motherhood, but in the 1950’s her options are limited. With the death of her father, Abby is alone and tired of hearing her friends pleas to marry and settle down like a good girl, she packs up and heads for her uncle’s home in Ireland. Their she befriends her cousin Lazarus, and meets a sophisticated woman she sees as a mentor. I really like Rosenberg’s writing style, she sweeps readers into Abby’s world. I didn’t care at all for Abby’s choice in men, but then given the time she probably didn’t have much choice
