Drown My Books by Penny Freedman. Published by Matador

Gina Grey would have liked a little house on the water in the middle of nowhere. She’s has to settle for a rather grotty terraced home on the Kentish coast. She spends her time tutoring students and helping asylum seekers learn to speak English. Her real love is the small community library that she and other volunteers run, along with the book club that meets there every week. One day, while walking her attitude challenged dog on the beach, she discovers a dead body. It’s the second death of a book club member and Gina informs the police that she believes they’re in danger. Her concerns are dismissed, leaving Gina no choice but to investigate on her own. I really enjoyed this mystery, Gina is a smart, literare heroine who doesn’t need a man by her side to be happy – or to solve a murder
