The Clairvoyants by Karen Brown. Published by Henry Holt

Martha has been able to see dead people since she was a child, now she’s leaving her hometown (and, she hopes, her ghosts) far behind. But as soon as she settles into her new apartment , she sees a young woman standing under her window, a woman who’s been missing since the previous winter. The woman is obviously dead, her hair coated in ice on a warm August day.  All her life, Martha has ignored the silent pleading of the ghost for help, but something about this young woman strikes a chord in her, and she begins to follow her…. This is an amazing literate Gothic tale of madness and murder. Highly recommended
