Two Nights by Kathy Reichs. Published by Bantam

Reichs leaves behind Temperance Brennan for this standalone thriller. Sunday Night, or Sunnie has led a complicated life, one that has left her different from other people, both physically and psychologically. She has learned to take care of herself, brutally and efficiently if need be and has kept herself apart from others, not letting herself feel anything for anyone. Now,  there is a girl missing and believed dead, but what if the girl is still alive? Does she even want to be found? What separates what happened to Sunnie from what may have happened to the lost girl? In looking for the girl, Sunnie is also looking into her own past and a nightmare she would rather forget. Reichs is an exceptional writer, always able to catch and hold readers captive. I liked Sunnie, who couldn’t be more different then Tempe.
