The Gone World by Tom Sweterlitsch. Published by Putnam

Time travel novels are tricky, an author has to be very careful not to fall into the language/slang and technology traps to have any possibility of being credible. This is an ambitious story of an NCIS agent, Shannon Moss, who must try to find out why a SEAL’s family was murdered and where his missing teen daughter is in the year 1997. The SEAL was aboard a spaceship that was lost in space for a period of time and Shannon believes the time he spent in space may have messed with his mind badly enough to cause him to commit terrible acts of violence. Traveling back and forth through time to solve the case, Shannon realizes that this one investigation could be the beginning of the end for life on earth. This is a story you need to pay attention to, small details become vastly important, but readers will be richly rewarded
