Sticks and Bones by Carolyn Haines. Published by St. Martins

I love this series and have since the very first entry, my only complaint lies in the cover illustrations over the last few years. I think they are too cutesy for the stories and mask excellent mysteries and serious characters. Now out of the acting business for good, Sarah Booth is back to full-time PI work and just in time too. Her old college acquaintance, Sister McFee is back in town to tout her memoir about the death of her mother and brother years before. A film crew is shadowing Sister’s every move, planning to make a film about the sordid tale. Bt as the film crew gets to work, they uncover some puzzling and highly troubling inconsistencies in Sisters stories and hire Sarah Booth to uncover the real story. I love Sarah Booth and her horse and dog, but ghost Jitty is my all time favorite contemporary character
