The shocking destruction of a typical suburban family is the centerpiece of Whittal’s novel. The Woodbury’s of Avalon Hills, Connecticut live an ordinary, upper middle class life. Joan in an ER nurse, her husband George a respected science teacher and local hero at a prep school. Out of the blue, George is arrested for Sexual misconduct involving his daughter’s schoolmates. He swears he’s innocent, but even his wife, who has known and loved him for so long, begins to have doubts. Friends and neighbors turn their backs and their daughter, a high school senior becomes a pariah. Joan’s brother, an attorney returns to the town that he never  wanted to set foot in again and a writer wants to use their story as fodder for a tell all. This is one of those stories that makes you think, “What would I do if this happened to me”? Told with immediacy and honesty, this is a story that kept me up last night
