The Plant Messiah by Carlos Magdalena. Published by Penguin UK

Magdalena is passionate about plants; he expounds on the many ways they help humanity, while showing that in return, we treat them like rubbish, causing more species to go extinct every year. He explains how he became interested in tropical plants and began work at Kew gardens, first as intern who worked his way to becoming known as the man who could bring plants back from the brink of extinction. I loved his stories of traveling to the Tropics  and how he was able to propagate species that were not expected to survive into the 21st century. Magdalena is a passionate supporter of our green spaces and I was caught up in his enthusiasm and reminded of the scientists who braved jungles and hostile locals to bring rare species of plants back to the UK and the US
