Donna Lane dreams of becoming a fashion designer. Her life in 1950’s Ohio is pleasant enough but she yearns for more. Her chronically ill brother Will, is obsessed with the TV show Sergeant Striker and the Alaska Wild. He saves box tops in hope of one day owning his own “One square inch of Alaska”. Donna is devoted to her brother. One day it looks as if all Donna’s dreams will come true, but she knows she has only one real choice. She packs up her brother and his mute husky Trusty into her car and they set off for Alaska.
One of the most beautifully written, most moving books I have ever read. A view into the beauty and grace of an extraordinary family. This book is a gift to all who read it
