Erlendur finds is days filled with mostly petty complaints, like traffic stops, domestic disputes and the like, but a murder changes everything. No one really seems to care when a homeless man is found drowned in a ditch, but Erlendur remembers the man from his days on the night shift and becomes determined to know who the man was and why he was killed.
